NAME:
Old Hans was a demanding man. He wanted his food to be prepared in a particular way and served in a way that pleased his senses. When he dined out at a restaurant, he brought the waiters to tears with his irrational demands. However, since he was a rich and influential man, no one dared deny him anything.
One day he went to a fine restaurant to enjoy an oyster dinner.
“Sir,” he demanded to the waiter, “please make sure the oysters are neither too big nor too small, neither too salty nor too sweet, neither too fat nor too thin.
The waiter wrote down his detailed instructions. Then, after some time, the waiter asked in a clear voice, so that the others who were dining could hear:
- Certainly sir. Allow me to ask, would you like your oysters with or without pearls?
Never before had anyone faced the demands of old Hans. He realized how foolish his demands were and stopped making them forever.
