the fox and the goat

Once, a fox fell into a well, and although it wasn't very deep, he thought he couldn't get out. After having been inside the well for a long period, a Goat passed by.
The Goat thought the fox had gone in to drink and so he asked if the water was good and if he could go in and have a drink too.
– It is the most divine water you will find in the entire region! - Said the cunning fox - Jump inside and taste it. There's more than enough for both of us.


The goat, thirsty, immediately jumped inside and began to drink. The fox, more than quickly, jumped on the goat's back and, jumping from the end of the goat's horns, managed to get out of the well.
The foolish goat now saw the dilemma he had gotten himself into and begged the fox to help him. However, the fox was already on his way to the forest.
- If you had as much sense as you have a beard, old fellow - said the fox as he ran - you would have been more careful to find a way out before you jumped into the well.
