“We already have almost 17 financial institutions approved by the Ministry of Citizenship, which are ready to release payroll loans. This number already shows that the market is interested in making credit available to Auxílio Brasil beneficiaries”, said the minister at his press conference at the Planalto Palace.
The payroll loan modality is the one released by financial institutions with automatic deduction of payroll installments of salary or benefit. For beneficiaries of Auxílio Brasil, a loan amount of up to 40% of the benefit value was stipulated, authorizing the Union to discount the installments in monthly transfers. It is worth mentioning that the program had a small change for the coming months. Previously, the value of the benefit was R$ 400, but it became R$ 600 from August until the end of this year.
Ronaldo Bento accompanied the president of the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA), Erik Figueiredo, where he was presenting a study that evaluated the effects of the Auxílio Brasil on extreme poverty in the country, the labor market and also on insecurity to feed. The name given to Figueiredo's note was “Expansion of the Auxílio Brasil Program: A preliminary reflection”, signed by him and released last week.
According to information also from the institute, the increase in transfers of the benefit represented, between January and August, almost 2.5 times the loss of income from work for poor families due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation we were in facing. Furthermore, according to Erik, the increase in the social program ended up boosting and benefiting local economies.
