Last Tuesday, the 11th, the Federal Senate approved the Full-Time School Program, which was proposed by the MEC (Ministry of Education). The program will be coordinated by MEC's Secretariat of Basic Education, with strategies aimed at Brazilian schools. After passing through the Chamber of Deputies, the projectnow it goes to President Lula's sanction.
In addition, the approved text allows the renegotiation of the resources of Law nº 14,172 to promote connectivity in schools. According to the proposal, the approval of the program aims to increase the number of enrollments in basic units of full-time education, with more schools spread throughout Brazil.

For the Federal Government, the initial goal is to increase the number of enrollments by 1 million already in the first agreement, through an investment of R$ 4 billion. For MEC, the goal by 2026 is to reach 3.2 million new enrollments.
The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, highlighted the importance of approving the Escola em Tempo Integral Program, which will bring benefits to children and young people from kindergarten to high school.
According to the minister, the program is not just about increasing the workload, but also about welcoming students in an adequate way, providing opportunities and valuing the teachers.
After approval by the Senate, Santana emphasized that this achievement represents a significant milestone for Education in Brazil.
In addition to financial support, the Ministry of Education plans to implement actions of technical assistance to school secretariats and communities as part of the Escola em Tempo Integral Program. These actions aim to improve the pedagogical work, taking into account an integral perspective of education.
This includes not only the expansion of school time, but also the use of spaces inside and outside the school, the integration of different areas of knowledge in the school curriculum, as well as articulation with sectors such as health, culture, sport, science and technology.
