Corpus Christi is a religious date that is always celebrated on a Thursday. The party is held every year, always 60 days after Easter, on the second Thursday after Pentecost Sunday.
The celebration of this day is included in the calendars of the Catholic Church and some Anglican churches. In Brazil, as a result of the country's long Catholic tradition, the celebration of the date is accompanied by some customs that were established here thanks to the influence of the Portuguese.
Thus, the activity of making carpets is a typical tradition of Corpus Christi in Brazil that was transmitted by the Portuguese. Carpets made on this holiday are a common practice in many parts of the country, representing major symbols and events of the Catholic faith.
The Corpus Christi holiday, in Brazil, is a day established as optional, and may be a municipal holiday. Therefore, each municipality must establish, by decree, whether this date will be celebrated that year or not. In addition, on the Friday after the holiday, most municipal and state governments define it as a day off.
The Official Journal of the Union published today (14) Ordinance No. 5,407 from the Ministry of Economy, which confirms that Friday, the 17th, will also be an optional day. With that, it is amending Ordinance No. 14,817, of December 20, 2021, which publishes the days of national holidays, defining which will be the optional points in the year 2022.
In this way, this week will have two days of optional break, since Thursday (16), Corpus Christi day (which does not is included in the list of dates that are holidays throughout the country), it has already been designated as an optional point for the entire population of country.
