DURATION: 30 to 40 minutes

GOALS:

  • through that healthy eating lesson plan, students will be able to identify healthy and unhealthy foods.

MATERIAL REQUIRED:

  • Various magazine clippings of healthy and unhealthy foods;
  • Blank paper;
  • Plastic food;
  • Educational activities.

INTRODUCTION:

  • Tell students that today they will be discussing healthy and unhealthy foods.
  • Assess prior knowledge by asking the class if they ate something healthy today.
  • Show students various healthy and unhealthy plastic foods and invite them to go one by one to the front in order to identify whether they think the food they have selected is healthy or not.

DEVELOPMENT:

  • On a board, make two columns. One column should be labeled "healthy" and one column should be labeled "unhealthy". Put a smiley face next to the word healthy and a sad face next to the word unhealthy to help students understand the chart.
  • Then call students one by one to select magazine clippings of different foods and decide if they are healthy or not.
  • When they choose one, discuss with the class why they think it is correct or incorrect. Then help students tape them on the right side of the board.
  • Continue until each student has gone to the board or until you have used all the pictures.

DIFFERENTIATION:

  • Give students the opportunity to create a healthy lunch!
  • To review on the topic of healthy food, put various fruits and vegetables on the table. Ask students to sort them by color. Explain that all of these items are healthy foods.

ASSESSMENT:

  • Make a dictation with healthy and unhealthy food and ask each student to put the answer in the corresponding column.
  • Ask them to do the following activities at home: Model 1 It is Model 2
