People with good knowledge of other languages may be curious about how it is possible to start working in the profession. In this way, as previously discussed, it is important to know that, for your Brazilian document to has validity abroad, it must have been translated by a specialized professional, and vice versa.
Therefore, even if you have sufficient knowledge of the languages, you will not be able to create a sworn version without being duly certified. In order to obtain this validation, the candidate must pass a public tender where his technical capacities are proven. Among the requirements is to be at least 21 years old, to be Brazilian or to have been naturalized and never to have received a conviction for a crime that entailed dismissal from public office.
The public tender is organized directly by the Commercial Boards of each state, normally when they are launched they are also accompanied by preparatory courses. However, these calls occur every ten years, based on the needs of each UF. In addition, it is important to highlight that there is no need to have a university degree to participate, just having an excellent knowledge of the language is enough.
The test is simple, just translate a text of 30 lines or more in the chosen language into Portuguese and vice versa. Finally, there is also an oral test, where the candidate needs to read both produced texts. After the process, you will be evaluated with grades ranging from zero to ten, and to start receiving the title of sworn translator, you need to have at least an average of seven.

Thus, this position allows to earn a living with this profession with a good remuneration. In addition, the market is quite heated, thanks to migration processes and the constant need for translations for procedures abroad or foreign documents arriving in Brazil.
Finally, if you want to know how many sworn translators there are currently, know that, in the state of São Paulo, according to ATPIESP, there are more than 1500 people practicing this profession. In Paraná, in turn, it has a record of 227 professionals who work in more than 10 languages.
