Launch of “Switch to Android”

According to information from Google itself, the “Switch to Android” application became available to a part of the public on April 18th. The company says it expects the rollout to reach 100% of users in the coming weeks.

As disclosed, the application supports the same types of data as Google Drive. Previously, Google's suggested process for migrating from iPhone to Android involved having users backup their personal content through the Google Drive application before switching devices cell phone. Thus, the new “Switch to Android” application performs the same function, but offers a “faster and more simplified” experience, according to Google.

About the app

Furthermore, “Switch to Android” offers a way to physically connect devices to move even more content, including music, audio, wallpapers, alarms, call logs, device settings and apps free.

In addition to moving data, the new application also offers other tools to assist in the process of transfer – how to unregister iMessage to continue receiving texts on new device Android.

In a note, Google informs that it plans to add new features to support more types of data to the application in the coming months. Transferring data from an iPhone via the new app will initially support Google Pixel devices as a target device, but will add support for other OEMs posteriorly.

The launch of “Switch to Android” follows other efforts by Google to get users back to using its own platform. This includes the recent update to the Google Photos app, which provides a new way for mobile devices copy photos from rival cloud storage services, including iCloud, Facebook and others.
