First, we have to take into account that Brazilians generally believe that paying a high price for a car has already become a “culture” and is already common. But one of the main reasons Brazilian cars are expensive is that automakers have been increasing profit margins.
For example, this explains the price difference between Brazil and Mexico. The models produced and sold in the Brazilian market are exported to Mexico and Argentina for half the price. This is due to taxes in Brazil, but also because it is more profitable to produce cars here.
