INSS policyholders may have benefits canceled

Every year, millions of Brazilians receive benefits guaranteed by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), such as retirement and pensions. However, when some requirements are not met or irregularities are found in the system, many of them may have their payments cancelled. In 2021 alone, the agency suspended 5.2 million benefits. See below about INSS insured persons may have benefits canceled and how to prevent this from happening.

It is important to pay attention to payment dates, as benefit transfers will be reviewed over the next 6 months. Through this analysis, the INSS will be able to identify citizens who are improperly receiving some benefit or who have not updated their data. If irregularities are found, such as conflicting information, the transfer will be interrupted until the individual regularizes his situation.

What can cause your benefit to be cancelled?

The following points may cause your payments to be revoked:

  • When the insured person continues in activities harmful to health even receiving special retirement;
  • Fraudulent registrations;
  • In the case of the Continued Benefit, do not update the Single Registry (CadÚnico) information;
  • Failure to show up on the date and time scheduled for the medical examination;
  • When the INSS amounts are not transferred for at least two months.

If you have suffered a blockage, the insured person can search the INSS website or application, or present himself to the personal service.

Which benefits can be suspended?

According to the Federal Audit Court (TCU), there are at least 8 thousand benefits being distributed to people who have already died, but who still represent a small number among the 36 million policyholders. Still, the goal is to find more overpayments, these being from the following programs:

  • Pension for Death;
  • Pension for Rural Death;
  • Special pension for leprosy;
  • Special pension for children with Congenital Zika Virus Syndrome;
  • Thalidomide syndrome special pension.
  • Closed insurance;
  • Maternity pay;
  • Family allowance;
  • Continuing Provision Benefit (BPC/Loas);
  • Benefit for temporary port workers;
  • Retirement of Persons with Disabilities by Age;
  • Retirement of Persons with Disabilities based on Contribution Time;
  • Special retirement for contribution time;
  • Accident Assistance;
  • Accident sickness benefit;
  • Common illness benefit;
  • Rural Seclusion Aid;
  • Urban Seclusion Aid;
  • By disability retirement;
  • Retirement by Rural Age;
