Sunflowers are easy to grow plants, brighten and bring a lot of color to gardens. Are we going to learn some essential care to have beautiful sunflowers?
Sunflower can be planted directly in the ground or in pots, depending on where you intend to grow your plant.
To plant in pots, the ideal is that you choose smaller seedlings or dwarf sunflowers. Pots need to be medium to large and at least 35cm wide.
If you have space and are going to plant in the ground, opt for the larger plants and choose a place rich in organic matter, with deep, well-draining soil.

The first thing to do is to arrange seedlings or seeds of sunflower. With seedlings, planting is simpler, just arrange the soil where it will be placed, dig a small hole that accommodates the roots well, place the seedling and cover with soil until it is supported.
If you have seeds, first place them on a slightly damp paper towel, then in a plastic bag and wait two days for the seeds to germinate.
Afterwards, dig a small hole 2 to 4 cm deep and accommodate the germinated seed, cover with a little soil and water. Remember to leave at least 30 cm between one seed and another.

Lighting
Sunflower needs at least 4 hours of sun a day - preferably in the morning, but it is recommended that it be in a sunny place all day.
Irrigation
Sunflower soil needs to be moist but not soggy. Watering needs more frequency when the plant is young, that is, when it is more developed, irrigation can be less frequent.
Pests
Always remove plants and weeds that appear near the sunflower. If birds go after the seeds, cover the ground with netting to make it difficult for them to reach the seeds.
Pruning
If there is little space between plants, always remove the weakest sunflower to make room for the healthier ones to develop.
Fertilization
The sunflower needs a soil rich in organic matter, and the giant sunflower needs extra fertilization, with fertilizers rich in nitrogen and slow release.
Temperature
Sunflower tolerates higher temperatures well up to 33 °C. Very low temperatures, winds and storms can damage the plant.
Growth
The size of the sunflower is very variable, it may get too big and need props to support itself and not break the stalk.
