PIS is the Social Integration Program, which aims to help low-income professionals. It is created from taxes paid by the company that are kept in the Fundo de Amparo ao Trabalhador (FAT). From the first job, the worker is registered with the PIS and can start receiving it after one year of work. Thus, the PIS works as a 14th salary to help the worker with his expenses.
Workers who are entitled to the benefit are those who earn up to two minimum wages, worked at least 30 days in the base year and have been enrolled in the program for at least 5 years.
Between February and March, Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil released a salary bonus of up to one minimum wage for those who worked in 2020. These payments were delayed by one year due to the postponement adopted by the government to save in the year 2021.
Thus, on March 31, the payment deadline for the base year 2019 opened. In this context, more than 320 thousand people have money to be withdrawn from their accounts, totaling around R$ 208.5 million.
There is also a third release, referring to the PIS/Pasep Fund quotas, available to workers who had jobs between 1970 and 1988. From this release, it is expected that 10.5 million citizens will be able to withdraw more than R$23 billion by June 1, 2025.
