The Pantanal is abundant in water. Many animals find shelter, food and a safe place to breed in their wetlands. Fish, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians live there, often occupying the same space without major problems. Being a region very rich in natural terms and very beautiful, the Pantanal is well visited by those interested in wildlife, whether scientist or tourist.
It is curious to know that the region has only two seasons: rainy and dry. They are the ones that regulate the water level of the place and determine the Pantanal life cycle. See: floods occur from October to March, with abundant rainfall. In the dry season, the flooded fields become dry and vegetation soon appears, in addition to animals of terrestrial habits, such as capybaras, which take advantage of the dry soil to walk and look for foods.
When the flood returns, land animals look for the few remaining dry areas. Plants that grew in the dry areas become submerged, die and rot. The decomposition of this vegetation releases nutrients and mineral salts into the water that will be available for the development of aquatic life. However, the excess of dead plants on the surface causes a phenomenon known as decoda.
