Activity of text interpretation, aimed at students in the sixth year of elementary school, about the anthill basket. According to the authors, if you find a small basket hanging from a tree or bush near the ground, please don't touch it! This could be the nest of the black-headed anthill, an endangered species. Are we going to know more about this bird? What are its characteristics? What are your habits? And what threatens the existence of this species? Let's find out? For this, read the text carefully! Then answer the various interpretative questions proposed!

Carefully read the text below. Then answer the interpretive questions:
It is a small and very rare bird, but you may be lucky enough to find it in a small basket made by herself. That's it: if you find a small basket hanging from a tree or bush, close to the ground, please don't touch it! This could be the nest of the black-headed anthill, an endangered species.
And here are more clues about this rarity in nature: males are predominantly black, with the exception of the red back and the small white dots that form two vertical stripes on their wings. Females, although they also present the back with this reddish tone and white spots on the wings, they are brown in the rest of the body.
Males and females of the black-headed anthill are very close. They walk together and feed on small insects, which they capture in the foliage and branches of shrubs closest to the ground. When this bird settles in a territory, the male vigorously defends the space. Use your corner to scare off the invader, defend your food and your partner. If necessary, it even carries out a chase.
The reproduction of this species occurs from August to February. Waiting for the offspring, males and females share all the tasks. They build the nest, hatch the eggs and feed their young. Their nests are the small baskets we talked about at the beginning of the text – they are made with vegetable fibers and roots, and attached to horizontal forks very close to the ground, where two eggs.
The black-headed anthill, which only occurs in the State of Rio de Janeiro, was considered extinct for over 100 years. But in 1987, bird specialist Fernando Pacheco rediscovered the species. Thanks to this rediscovery, other researchers were able to study aspects of the biology and reproduction of this bird, which is at risk of disappearing forever due to the destruction of its habitat.
The regions where the black-headed anthill lives were invaded by the construction of summer houses, as they are places close to the beaches. Only with the protection of the areas where the species occurs will there be a chance that this bird will escape extinction.
