It was very hot and the lion decided to look for a cool place where he could rest. There, he stretched and waved his tail lazily as time passed. Suddenly, a squirrel came out of a nearby bush and recklessly passed under the beard of the king of the jungles. The lion felt like playing with the squirrel and began to chase him. The poor little animal thought the lion wanted to eat him. Trembling from head to tail, he pleaded with her to spare his life.
“If you release me, good lion, I promise to help you fight your enemies. said the scared squirrel.
— Ah! oh! oh! What help can you give me, petty pet? Hurry away before I lose my temper! replied the lion, belittling him.
The time has passed. One day, the proud king of the jungles fell into a trap set by hunters. He struggled a lot, trying valiantly to get out of the net, but he couldn't do it. Then the squirrel appeared and patiently began to gnaw at the net with its sharp little teeth. In this way he managed to free the lion.
Repentant for the contempt with which he treated the little animal, he apologized to him.
“Forgive me, squirrel. Now I understand that all animals, however small, deserve the utmost respect. I promise I will never laugh at you again. said the lion.
“Don't worry, good friend. Wise is one who recognizes his mistakes in time. replied the squirrel.
From that moment on, the two became inseparable friends and could, together, face the dangers of the jungle.
