Have you noticed that certain birds draw a lot of attention because of their color or the arrangement of their feathers and that in others, singing is the strongest thing? It's just that nature provides species with a balance. In the case of birds, it is rare, for example, that the one with the most beautiful plumage also has the most beautiful song. Let's look at the real painter: this little bird, which many consider to be among the most beautiful in the world, has a squeaky and unattractive song.
The true painter belongs to the Tangará family, which in Tupi-Guarani means multicolored bird. Despite the name, the bird does not know how to paint. It is named after the variety of colors of its feathers.
The measurements of this bird are similar to those of the sparrow, but, unlike this one, which has a subtle plumage, the real painter abuses color! On the back, near the tail, it is yellow. The edges of the wing feathers closest to the body are the same color. This set, seen from the side, forms a yellow triangle, tending to orange, quite striking. This makes it easy to recognize the species. Also, the head and neck are turquoise blue; and the rest of the body, blue, violet and black. Is it or is it not a feathered watercolor?!
Just looking at the colors of the species makes it difficult to tell if it's male or female, because both look a lot alike.
This bird breeds between October and March and builds its nests, usually in large bromeliads, which live supported by tree branches in the forest. The female puts three to four years old, who are hatched for approximately two weeks. Puppies, after one year, are considered adults.
The true painter feeds on seeds and fruits of embaúbas, mandacarus and others. It lives only in the Atlantic Forest, being exclusive to the northeastern coast of Brazil, between Alagoas and Paraíba. But it is increasingly rare to see a Brazilian painter. This is because, because of its beauty, it is a target for capture and illegal trade. The deforestation of the Atlantic Forest, an environment in which it shelters, feeds and breeds, is another threat to the existence of this species. The worst thing is that scientists still know very little about this little bird. Will there be time to study it?
