You must have heard someone say that you eat dogs in China. And it's true—we'll get there in a bit. But the habit of consuming meat from dogs (and cats too!) is not restricted to the Asian giant.
Other countries in the world also include these animals on the menu — some nations, including, may shock you to be on this list.

As absurd and inconceivable as this custom may seem to us Brazilians, to other peoples is a cultural heritage or, still, a belief of supposed medicinal benefits in the meat of the animals.
We separate here six countries that still put dogs and cats on the plate. Continue reading without prejudice to the customs of other nations, okay? Let's go!
1. China
Let's start with it, because you've already heard a lot about what they eat there.
It's true, they eat dog meat. This is a legacy of more than 400 years, when China was going through a dark period of great famine. So any protein was welcome. Anyone... really!
2. U.S
Is it past? So it is! But calm down. You won't eat these animals in New York or Los Angeles; Only in hawaii. On the island, cat meat is super common and is prepared in different ways: fried, roasted, on the plate, on a skewer (yes, there is “cat skewer”, literally).
3. Vietnam
As published by Portal 6, it is estimated that around five million dogs are consumed by the population of Vietnam annually. Have you thought?
4. Canada
I wish I could see the surprise on your face when you read “Canada” on this list. In some regions of the country, it is super normal to eat dogs and cats in periods of extreme cold.
5. South Korea
South Korea is also one of the countries where meat from domestic pets, such as dogs and cats, is consumed. However, it's only considered high-end meat — and even exported a little too.
6. Switzerland
Starting today, the Switzerland will be marked as the country of chocolates, watches, cheeses and dog and cat meat.
In the coldest regions of that nation, the government even defends the consumption of meat — as long as the slaughter does not cause any type of suffering for the animals, often held as pets.
