Rondon was responsible for connecting several locations in the interior of the country through the telegraph lines. He carried out a geographic survey of 50 thousand linear km of land and water, determined 200 geographic coordinates and included 12 rivers on the map of Brazil, correcting the course of others.
In addition, he helped to delimit the Brazilian territory, traveling or coordinating expeditions that demarcated the 17,000 km of our borders. And it did this without creating conflicts with a single country.
He was also responsible for peacefully resolving a diplomatic conflict between Peru and Colombia over the Leticia region. It was in 1934 when he headed the Joint Commission of the League of Nations.
But Rondon's greatest contribution is perhaps his struggle in defense of indigenous rights. Having himself of Bororo, Terena and Guaná ancestry, he had a deep identification with the original peoples, publicly assuming his Bororo identity in the mid-1940s.
For everything he did for the country, in 1955, he received the title of Marshal, the highest rank in the Brazilian Army, in the Chamber of Deputies. Cities were named after him, as was the state of Rondônia. And even the Nobel Peace Prize he was quoted – not once, but twice!
