It was a warm morning and the crow was resting on top of a branch of holm oak (type of oak). She felt very comfortable in the shade, and had a nice piece of cheese in her beak. How happy she was!
— Ah, that's what life is! she said, rejoicing. He blinked his eyes with delight and wrinkled his nose so that he could better smell the delicious delicacy.
Meanwhile, a fox was at the foot of the holm oak. Full of hunger, I wondered how to steal the cheese. Hmm! How good it smelled! Her scent was irresistible. He knew the other's weakness well, and so he had an idea.
"Oh, my friend crow!" - said. How long have I not heard him sing! What's going on? Don't tell me she lost her beautiful voice?
- No of course not! Wait a minute and I'll show you, friend fox!
The crow, carried away by his vanity, opened its beak, otherwise it would not be able to sing. And, at that very moment, the cheese escaped and fell to the ground. The fox, who was very attentive, seized the succulent in the blink of an eye, saying:
"These are the consequences of listening to praise, friend crow!"
The fox walked away quietly, not even looking back. While the crow, in the place it occupied, gave leaps of indignation. See you what a compliment can do at the appropriate time.
