The teal-toicinho, also known as “paturi-do-mato”, is a medium-sized bird (it reaches a maximum length of 37 centimeters). Due to its size, it cannot reach long and high flights.
It has white sides of the head, as well as the throat. Its beak is blue with a red base. Males and females are quite similar, differing only in the red color of the beaks, which in males are more garish.
These birds have the characteristic of being very faithful to their partner: the male and female stay together throughout the period of reproduction, birth and rearing of the chicks.
