In 2018, Brazil had 181,939 basic education schools. Of these, 28,673 (15.8%) offered secondary education. The data are from the 2018 School Census, released by Inep on January 31.
The availability of technological resources in high schools is greater than in elementary schools. These resources are found in more than 60% of schools, in all administrative dependencies. Libraries or reading rooms are present in more than 80% of all facilities. The number increases to 90% in federal and private networks.

While Internet access is a reality in 95.1% of secondary schools, the science laboratory is found in only 44.1% of them. This important learning space is present in 38.8% of high schools in the public network, and in 57.2% in the private network.
Still regarding administrative facilities, the 2018 School Census reveals that 83.4% of federal schools have a science laboratory in high school. The structure of state and municipal schools, on the other hand, affects coverage, with 37.5% and 28.8%, respectively.
Other technological resources and learning spaces are more frequent, such as the library, in 87.5% of all high schools; and the computer lab, present in 78.1%.
All data from the 2018 School Census are available on the Inep Portal. Statistical notes summarize the main results. The statistical synopses, by means of tables, bring data disaggregated by state and municipality.
In the coming days, Inep will publish the Technical Summary of the 2018 School Census. The School Census is coordinated by Inep and carried out in collaboration between the state and municipal departments of education.
