In general, the DPVAT insurance is paid in the first installment or in a single installment of the Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA).
In cases of exemption from the payment of the IPVA, the insurance will be charged together with the annual license or the registration service.
The payment exemption situations are: for drivers with physical or mental limitations and disabilities; carriers of certain chronic diseases; for stolen vehicles and models older than 20 years.
There are three coverages provided by DPVAT Insurance. Are they:
The DPVAT offers protection to the insured person for a period of up to 3 years, exclusively in the case of personal injury resulting from accidents occurring in Brazil.
Coverage does not include property damage, fines, personal injury that was not caused by vehicles motor vehicles, accidents without victims, foreign vehicles or accidents occurring outside the territory national.
The amounts collected by the federal government with the DPVAT Insurance are distributed as follows:
DPVAT Insurance was created in 1974, through Federal Law No. 6,194/74.
It is a right of all Brazilians, ensuring compensation to victims of traffic accidents who have been injured seriously or who for that reason had sequelae, or even those who were indirectly affected due to the death of a familiar.
For apply for DPVAT Insurance, just go to any of the 8,000 service points spread across the country, at from the Detran, Sincor and Procon of your state, Post Office, Public Ministry, insurance companies and brokers graduates.
It is also possible to request this right through the Secure DPVAT application, available for Android and iOS operating systems. Both the face-to-face service and the download of the DPVAT app are free of charge.
Many scammers, known as “crossers”, promise to carry out the entire insurance application process in exchange for a percentage of the amount obtained.
In some cases, these middlemen encourage people who have even been injured for other reasons to apply for DPVAT illegally.
So stay tuned! The application can be made by the owner of the vehicle, victims of the accident or their heirs. There is no need for intermediaries or brokers.
