In recent years, the adoption of menus via QR Code has become a strong trend in restaurants, bars, snack bars and other establishments of the type spread throughout Brazil.
This type of menu is only accessible by reading a code provided at the establishment. To read it, just point the smartphone or tablet camera and that's it, the options appear on the device's screen.

By nature, the QR Code menu extinguishes the need to have direct contact with surfaces, which was very useful during the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, despite representing an interesting advance and being quite modern, the use of QR menus Code is not unanimity, and, it seems, it may start to be interrupted in the country, at least in a way partial.
This is because a law recently passed in the state of Rio de Janeiro obliges establishments to offer, in addition to the digital menu, a printed version of the options menu.
In this way, many places can keep only the physical menus, no longer using QR Codes, which can easily fall into disuse.
The bill that aims to require the availability of printed menus was authored by state deputy Rodrigo Amorim, from the PTB of Rio de Janeiro.
According to Rodrigo, the motivations that led the owners of gastronomic establishments to keep the QR Code menus even after the pandemic are valid, but the “pains” of customers who are unable to use this type of service must also be observed.
For the parliamentarian, the most affected are the elderly and other people who do not have expertise in the use of mobile devices, as well as people who, for one reason or another, have no access to the internet or their own device.
As a result, requiring the establishment to offer both the QR Code option and the physical version of the menu would resolve the impasse once and for all.
In addition to bars, restaurants, snack bars and other food service establishments, the new law also impacts any other establishment that sells ready-to-eat food.
Projects similar to the one approved in RJ are already being discussed in the Legislative Assemblies of other states, such as Minas Gerais and the Federal District, which tend to approve similar measures.
