Arts Lesson Plan (Kindergarten to Grade 2)

This art lesson plan for K-12 students helps students observe the shape of the head and practice drawing it.

THEME: drawing the silhouette

YEAR: From kindergarten to 2nd grade of elementary school

GOALS:

When using this art lesson plan in the classroom, the student will be able to trace the characteristics of other students through an outline of their shadow.

MATERIAL REQUIRED:

• overhead projector
• Profile photos of each student
• Paper sheets
• Pencil and eraser
• Sheets of colored paper (colors should be dark)
• white chalk

INTRODUCTION:

Ask students to form pairs. Say that the lesson will be about drawing the silhouette.

DEVELOPMENT:

1. Pin a piece of dark colored paper to the wall and ask one of the students to sit next to the projector so that the shadow of their face is projected onto the paper.
2. Have the other student in the group use the white chalk to outline the shadow on the paper, ask them to include as much detail as possible.
3. Upon completion of one of the pairs, another group must begin work.
4. After all student groups have taken turns, pin the work to the board and have students compare their sketches with the student who served as the model.
