Dexter Morgan has made a new life for himself in the town of Iron Lake in snowy upstate New York - and, well, it sure is a comfortable existence for a former serial killer.

Now using the alias Jim Lindsay, he is dating and working at a fishmonger. When we first meet him, he spends his days admiring, but not killing, a beautiful white deer in the woods and his nights ordering his usual drink at the local bar.
Showtime's "Dexter: New Blood" reboots one of the most famous antihero series of the 2000s, with Michael C. Hall reprising the title role of the murderous vigilante. Set in December 2021, the story finds Dexter living in hiding more than eight years after the original series ended with his convenient disappearance in a hurricane.
Now, he's away from his original area in Miami and is working hard to fight his addiction to killing and dismembering bad people. The son he left behind, Harrison (Jack Alcott), tracks him down to reconnect, and Dexter's resolve to resist killing begins to unravel.
The sleeping city soon awakens. A riot of crimes begins to occur. The party-going son of a wealthy local family has gone missing. Harrison claims to have stopped a school shooting by cutting up the boy planning it.
These many plot strands begin in the first four episodes made available for review, and it remains to be seen whether the show can settle into all of them.
The relationship between Dexter, his son, and what Dexter calls his "Dark Passenger" remains the most intriguing. Dexter is concerned not only about how his own desire to kill could put Harrison in danger, but also whether Harrison has inherited a "dark passenger" of his own.
We might not mind if Dexter keeps killing, and we'll probably still root for him no matter what he does. But it would be nice to get some answers this time.
Paramount+ premieres “Dexter: New Blood” on November 8.
