The launch of the Arena Gamer took place at the Nave do Conhecimento at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium, Engenhão, where the Arena will be installed.
With the project, the city government hopes that the place will establish itself as a space for inclusion, learning and social transformation through technology.
According to secretary Tatiana Roque, Arena Gamer do RJ is the first public initiative of its kind to be launched in Brazil.
Tatiana also pointed out that, despite the fact that the Arena primarily caters to residents around Engenhão, due to its proximity, it will be completely open to anyone.
“Nave students are the priority, of course, but Nave, as always, is open to everyone, just come here and enroll”, she explained.
Still according to the secretary, the venture is a great way to offer technological inclusion and fun to low-income young people.
“We are heading towards a world dominated by new technologies, so we need to open up more and more opportunities accessible to everyone, so as not to leave anyone behind, so that no one is left out of this new world of technology”, she stated.
Finally, the secretary told a little about the City Hall's plans for the inauguration of the Arena.
“The idea is that we inaugurate Arena Gamer with a championship. We are already studying with the Games and eSports Coordination of the city hall teams that can come to compete in this opening act of the arena”, said Tatiana Roque.
In addition to the ability to host small competitions and regional electronic game tournaments, the Arena Gamer will play the role of training center for new eSports teams in the city of Rio de January.
It is worth mentioning that, in competitions, the space can accommodate up to two teams composed of up to five players each.
In the space there will also be a broadcast studio for electronic sports competitions, dressing rooms for the teams, an area designated for the technical team and a grandstand.
Chandy Teixeira, who is coordinator of games and eSports for the City of Rio, was also in the announcement of Arena Gamer and spoke a little about the importance of the enterprise.
“An arena like this, above all, has the ability to democratize games, and more than that, an arena like this is not just made up of players. It is made up of a series of professions that orbit as commentators, narrators, the lawyer who will take care of the rules of the game, the administrator of the space, so this arena is also a portal for the new creative economy that, as the mayor [Eduardo Paes] said, moves the world economy at this moment”, he commented.
Arena Gamer will also have spaces for people who are not so familiar with games and eSports, but want to get to know this universe.
On site, it is planned to install an area with simulators, virtual reality glasses and other immersion machines that can be used by “lay people” in the subject.
Present at the presentation of the Arena, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, highlighted the importance of technology and the gamer world for the Brazilian economy.
“If we manage to put Brazil in this field, we will leave and it has enormous potential. We need to create and provide the conditions for us to have these kids creating this technology and earning money”, he said.
“Here [in Rio de Janeiro City Hall] we are friends with eSports. We want this city to be the forerunner of that, to be the forerunner of innovation”, he concluded.
