What is an issuing body? Issuing agency or dispatcher refers to institutions or public bodies that issue essential documents for the citizen, such as the RG (General Registration), CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registration), Passport, CNH (National Driver's License), among others.

The documents must be issued only by the authorized government departments.

Knowing the place where the document was issued is essential for filling in registration data, such as during enrollment in selective processes such as the Enem and public tenders, for example.

Main documents issued by issuing bodies

Below are some examples of documents issued by issuing agencies:

• RG (Identity Card): it is the fundamental document of every citizen. O RG (General Registration) is usually issued by Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) of the corresponding Brazilian states. To check the name of the body and issuing state, just look at the RG in the horizontal position next to the photo and digital, in the upper central corner.
• CNH (National Driver's License): driver identification document. Generally, the issuing body responsible for its dispatch is the Detran (Transit Department).
• CTPS (Employment and Social Security Card): the Work Card is used by workers and social security contributors. Its issuing body is the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE) from each state.
• Birth, marriage or death certificate: its authorized issuing body is the civil registry office, present in large numbers in all Brazilian cities.
• Passport: its issuance is the sole responsibility of the Federal Police Department (DPF). When it comes to visas, you should look for the Consulates and Embassies of the countries in question.

How to identify the issuing body in the identity card?

For identify the issuing body in the General Registry (RG) is very simple. With the document in hand, check the side of the photo and fingerprint the name of the agency followed by the abbreviation of the state.

As previously mentioned, the main responsibility for issuing the identity card is the Secretariat of Public Security. However, in some states, the Civil Police is also authorized to perform this function.

Examples of lesser-known issuing bodies

Check below some other less common bodies, but which also issue documents recognized by law:

• FGTS: Severance Indemnity Fund;
• IGP: General Institute of Expertise;
• IML: Legal medical Institute;
• OAB: Brazilian Bar Association;
• POM: Military police;
• SPTC: Secretariat of Technical-Scientific Police;
• SECC: Secretary of State for the Civil House.

You Regional Councils (Medicine, Engineering, Agronomy) and the Ministries (Labour, Navy and Army) are also considered issuing bodies empowered by government regimes.
