What is Postcode?

Postal Code is a codification used by postal administrations in order to facilitate the logistical organization and the identification of an address. Each country can create the postal code in the format it deems convenient and that best adapts to its postal and administrative reality.

With the postal code, Postal companies around the world are able to pinpoint the exact location of public places, buildings, companies and public bodies, to forward, process and distribute posted objects quickly and efficiently.

A wrong or missing postal code can cause packages and mail to take longer to be delivered, or even be taken to the wrong address, as there may often be streets with the same name in different cities.

Currently, 117 of the 190 countries that make up the Universal Postal Union use some postal code model, which can be exclusively numeric or mix letters and numbers.

Brazil Postal Code

In Brazil, the postal code is called ZIP code (Zip code). He was raisedin may 1971 by Correios, the company responsible for sending and delivering mail in the country.

Initially, its structure contained five digits. In May 1992, the CEP became eight digits, a format that remains until today.

Its structure is divided into two parts, the first, with five digits, and the other, with three, separated by a hyphen. The numbers in the first part represent Region, Subregion, Sector, Subsector and Subsector Divisor, while those in the second part are the Distribution Identifiers.
