The Cave of the Hands is a series of caves in Argentina. Here, over 9,000 years ago, people painted their hands on the walls. The wall above is one of many that is covered with hand silhouettes.
It is believed that these silhouettes were made by placing a hand on the wall and then blowing liquid pigment through a hollow bone. The cave paintings are so significant that the ‘Cueva de las Manos’ is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Not all paintings in the 'Cave of Hands' are silhouettes of hands. Some are geometric designs, animals, hunters and weapons. Pigments used include: iron oxides (red), kaolin (white), natrojarosite (yellow) and manganese oxides (black).
A pictogram is one of the simplest (and most popular) forms of data visualization out there. Pictograms are symbols that represent objects or things. They are basically simplified and standardized images.
Pictograms have constantly evolved over the centuries. They have often been associated with magical powers, used to convey religious ideas, or even used as a secret code.
A pictogram is a symbol that conveys meaning through its resemblance to a physical object. Examples of pictograms include signage, such as in airports and other environments where many people may not be familiar with the local language.
