What is Archaea?

Living beings can be classified into three domains: Archaea, Bacteria, Eukarya. The Archaea domain includes organisms prokaryotes, that is, they do not have cell nucleus delimited.

Previously, prokaryotes were classified along with bacteria, but they were separated because they have their own characteristics that place them in a distinct group.

Many archaeal organisms are considered extremophiles, that is, they can survive in extreme environmental conditions. However, many species support only moderate environments.

Those who are extremophiles can survive in environments with very high temperatures, places abundant in salts or gases.

They can be divided into:

• Extreme halophytes: they live in places rich in salt, very hot and dry, with a high rate of evaporation.
• Extreme thermophiles: live in very hot places, deadly for most living beings.
• Methanogenic: they live in moderate environments, very present in nature and produce methane. They can be found in bovine viscera and in the body of some herbivores.
