Importance of tongue twisters for children

The recitation of tongue twisters, in addition to amusing the little ones, helps in the development of the muscles involved in speech, favoring a clearer pronunciation of words, especially the more difficult syllables, in addition to contributing to an increase in vocabulary.

However, one must be aware of the complexity of the tongue twister according to the child's age.

Pronunciation should start slowly, allowing time for the child to pronounce correctly and articulate the sounds well. As the recitation progresses, the speed increases.

The prank can be done by merging several different speeds.

Children from two years old can already recite simple tongue twisters. Progressively, the acquisition of phonemes is articulated until the age of five, which justifies the act before that age, many phonemes are not pronounced correctly.

In general, two-year-olds are starting to pronounce the letter “l” sound, as in “pencil”. Sounds like “lh” in “branch”, “r” in “orange”, as well as
consonant clusters like “tr”, “br”, “fr”, “cr”, “gr”, “bl” and “pl” take even longer to acquire.

Within that, tongue twisters and poems rich in alliteration can help the process.
