According to information from the Military Police, a colonel receives an average starting salary of at least BRL 9,257.42 and a lieutenant colonel from BRL 8,267.76.
These numbers can vary a lot according to the region in which they work, see some examples of salaries in terms of their regions of operation:
In São Paulo, the starting average salary of a PM colonel is already higher than the general average, the value is between BRL 13,500 monthly, plus bonuses.
However, these values vary greatly, even within the same state.
For example, in August 2012, the newspaper “O Globo” published information according to which a colonel in the Military Police of São Paulo earned more than BRL 254 thousand each month.
In the state of Rio de Janeiro, a PMERJ colonel should earn BRL 15,300 per month, according to the scaled readjustment table (between 2014 and 2019).
Currently, the remuneration is in the amount of BRL 11,500 per month.
