List of natural number addition and subtraction exercises

Question 1. There are 59,824 bees in a hive. If after a period 16,590 die and 15,287 are born, how many live bees are there in that hive?

Question 2. A couple bought R$18,200 worth of furniture and appliances. If they are still going to pay $450.00 of delivery fee, how much will they pay in total?

Question 3. A club has a pool with a capacity of 28,000 liters of water, one of 16,000 liters and another of 21,000 liters. How many liters of water are needed to fill the three pools completely?

Question 4. A house bought for R$70,500 was sold five years later for R$81,200. How much more did the seller receive than he paid for the house?

Question 5. At the beginning of the year, 14,730 employees worked in a large company. During the year, 748 employees were dismissed and 924 were hired. How many employees does the company have now?

Question 6. A sock factory made a profit of R$65,200 in one year. In the following year, the profit was R$ 74,450. How much more did this factory earn?

Question 7. One school started the school year with 790 students enrolled. During the 1st semester, 38 students requested transfers and 52 new students enrolled at the school. How many students did the school have?

Question 8. On one trip, a tourist spent BRL 7,600 on airfare, BRL 4,850 on accommodation and BRL 6,250 on food and additional expenses. How much did the tourist spend on this trip?

Resolution of question 1

From the total number of bees, we must subtract the number of bees that died and, to the result, add the number of bees that were born.

59824 – 16590 = 43234

43234 + 15287 = 58521

So there are 58,521 live bees in this hive.

Resolution of question 2

We must add the price of furniture and appliances to the value of the delivery fee.

18200 + 450 = 18650

Therefore, the couple will pay BRL 18,650.00 in total.

Resolution of question 3

We have to add the capacity of the three pools:

28000 + 16000 + 21000 = 65000

Therefore, 65,000 liters of water are needed to fill the three pools completely.

Resolution of question 4

We must subtract the amount paid on the house from the amount received with the sale:

81220 – 70500 = 10720

Soon, the seller received R$ 10,720 more than he had paid for the house.

Resolution of question 5

We need to subtract the number of employees that were fired and add the number of employees hired to the result.

14730 – 748 = 13982

13982 + 924 = 14906

This means that the company now has 14,906 employees.

Resolution of question 6

Subtracting profits, we have:

74450 – 65200 = 9250

Therefore, the following year, the factory made R$ 9,250.00 more in profit.

Resolution of question 7

Let's subtract the number of students who requested transfers and then add the number of new students.

790 – 38 = 752

752 + 52 = 804

Therefore, the school had 804 students.

Resolution of question 8

Let's add up all the tourist expenses.

7600 + 4850 + 6250 = 18700

Therefore, the tourist spent R$ 18,700.00 on the trip.
