With that in mind, USP is offering a free online course on indigenous language. Developed by teacher Eduardo Navarro, the course addresses Old Tupi and the General Language.
Students who want to be certified need to answer the course exercises and send the answers to the professor's email.
It is important to note that even today some tribes do not wish to share their language with outsiders, as they consider their language and certain cultural characteristics to be tribal property.
The written form of most native languages is still quite new. Most were only written for just 100-200 years. Thus, until now, standardized spellings for words have generally not been agreed upon by all speakers. Keep this in mind when using written materials.
