Brazilian universities stand out in the ranking of the best in Latin America

Brazil may not even have won the World Cup, but its universities are winning the biggest pool! The country has 43 higher education institutions listed among the top 130 in Latin America, according to Times Higher Education Latin America (THE). Unicamp and University of São Paulo (USP) occupy the first two positions.

The study was carried out by the British magazine Times Higher Education and was published on Wednesday (18). To evaluate educational institutions, 13 indicators are taken into account among the following five criteria – teaching, research, citations, perspective and industry income. The first list was released in 2016.

Since the first ranking was published, this is the second consecutive time that Unicamp occupies the first place. In the first edition, the institution was runner-up, behind USP. The rector of Unicamp, Marcelo Knobel, received the classification with satisfaction and valued the positioning of the other institutions.

According to him, “Unicamp's leadership is the result of the work that the entire university community has been doing in a structured way). The Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), which ranks 14th on the list, moved up one position in relation to the list released last year.

The acting dean, Alacoque Lorenzini Erdmann, points to the efforts of the community as responsible for positioning the institution in the ranking, maintaining and expanding the quality of scientific production and teaching despite budget constraints. According to her, management has managed to overcome this and other problems.

Among the top 15 universities in Latin America, we still have Unifesp, PUC RJ, UFMG, UFRGS, UFRJ and the Federal University of São Carlos representing the country. Check below the ranking containing the 50 best universities in Latin America, taken from the publication's website:
