With that in mind, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) offers the introductory academic text course. It is online, completely free and requires no prerequisites. That is, anyone, even if they are not students at the institution, can apply.

In addition, at the end, students who reach the minimum performance required, which is 60%, receive free certificate of completion, which can be used as part of the additional hours required in graduations.
According to the institution, meeting an existing demand, “the objective of the course is to present an understanding of the structure and functioning of the academic text for freshmen of a higher education course”.
The introductory academic text course has a total workload of 20 hours, and is divided into five modules, as detailed below. Despite the fixed number of hours, an advantage is that the student can dictate his own pace of studies.
To fix the knowledge acquired, at the end of the video of each module, students do some exercises on the content of the class. In addition, links are provided for further reading to deepen the concepts covered.
The course is taught by Professor Silvana Silva, who is a professor in the Portuguese Language sector at the Instituto de Letras at UFRGS and holds a PhD in Language Studies from the university itself.
