Itafro, a preparatory course for young black men and women who wish to enter the Instituto Tecnológico da Aeronautics (ITA), opens 70 free places in its first edition of pre-university preparatory course for the institution. The course will be given in São Paulo and will receive registrations until this Saturday (11) and serves the low-income black population.
The course is designed by Educafro, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that brings together volunteers who fight for the inclusion of black people, especially poor people who wish to enter higher education. The purpose of the NGO is to enable empowerment and social mobility for the poor and Afro-Brazilian population.

Of the total number of opportunities, 35 are aimed at women. In addition to preparation, the course will offer bonuses to those who stand out with better grades. This will be done through tests applied daily and, if they achieve a weekly average of more than 5, the student can receive from R$ 100.00 to R$ 200.00 in incentive.
In order to complete the registration, the interested candidate must access the itafro website and fill out a questionnaire. The selection will be quick and the list of approved candidates will be announced on Sunday (12), starting at 9 am, in a meeting scheduled at the NGO's headquarters in São Paulo. Classes at Itafro are scheduled to start next Monday (13).
Those who are not selected will also be entitled to courses offered by the NGO. According to Educafro's executive director, Friar David Santos, the objective is to serve all those who seek the organization, encouraging them to pursue their dream of studying.
For the first time in history, ITA adhered to the quota system in its entrance exam for admission in 2019. Of the 110 vacancies made available, 22 will be reserved for black candidates. The adhesion follows the decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to institute quotas in competitions for the Armed Forces.
It has not yet been informed whether the enrollment of quotaholders will be by self-declaration or whether a verification commission will be instituted. More details can be verified before the publication of the public notice scheduled for the next few days. In addition to this, the institution should bring other changes, which will also be announced soon.
Linked to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the institution has one of the most competitive teams in the country. Registration started on August 1st. Last year, 11,300 candidates applied for vacancies available in the six engineering courses offered by the Institute. More information at ITA website.
