Next Monday, the 17th, a group of Brazilian businessmen will launch a campaign whose objective is to generate at least 1 million formal jobs in the first month of 2019.
The movement, which was named “Empregue +1 – Entrepreneurs united in favor of employment”, suggests that each company in the country, from micro to giants, open at least one vacancy.

The program is led by Brazil 200 Movement. According to the entity's president, Gabriel Kanner, in Brazil there are about 22 million CNPJs. “If we have 5% of them join, there will be 1 million vacancies”, declared Kanner.
Still according to Gabriel Kanner, the idea “is to have a big impact on job creation at the beginning of the year”. Both Kanner and the other businessmen involved in the action are supporters of the president-elect, Jair Bolsonaro. Reason why the campaign coincides with the beginning of the next government.
“The intention is to channel the moment of optimism in Brazil, with businessmen resuming investments, adding all of this in a mobilization campaign”, stated Kanner.
The initiative is supported by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp). The launch of the campaign will also be held at the entity's headquarters. The event should be attended by approximately 250 businessmen from the commerce, industry, services and agribusiness sectors from all over Brazil.
Movimento Brasil 200 was created in 2017 by the owner of Lojas Riachuelo, Flávio Rocha. Gabriel Kanner is also part of the group – he is the grandson of the company's founder, Nevaldo Rocha.
According to him, the Riachuelo will open 300 jobs in January. However, the expectation is that the number will grow throughout the year, with the opening of new stores.
Other entrepreneurs have already joined the program. Between them, Luciano Hang, owner of the Havan chain. In addition to the promise of 5,000 jobs, Hang announced an investment of BRL 500 million in opening 20 stores in 2019.
Names like João Appolinário, from Polishop, Sebastião Bonfim, from Centauro, and Edgard Corona, from the Bio Ritmo and Smart Fit gyms, are also involved in the action.
As of January, Empregue +1 will carry out campaigns on television, radio, newspapers and social networks. Companies participating in the action will post job vacancies on a website, where interested parties can apply. The numbers will be monitored monthly through the Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged).
According to Kanner, “vacancies will be offered in all segments, from maintenance and cleaning to senior positions, with different ranges salaries, all with a formal contract and through the modalities foreseen in the new labor legislation, such as intermittent and temporary.
IBGE data show that the unemployment rate in Brazil fell to 11.7% in the quarter ending in October. However, it is still considered too high.
In the month of October, 57.7 thousand job openings were created with a formal contract. The number was lower than in August and September, when 110,000 and 157,000 jobs were created, respectively.
