Okay, we're in full XXI century and much of what was idealized by the series did not materialize. Yet. With the paths taken by the Digital Revolution, the world is transformed by robotization and the increasing use of artificial intelligence.
What for many is a reason for excitement, for others means anguish and concern. This is because, according to studies by the Sapiens Institute, at least five professions risk extinction by 2050 thanks to the technological revolution.
In this, more than two million people could see their jobs disappear in the coming years. Incidentally, this is a trend that we have already seen, from the automation of various services, previously carried out by human beings.
But, is your career among those that can become a mere memory of the not-too-distant past?
The Sapiens Institute based its research on data provided by DARES, a statistical study service of the French Ministry of Labor. First, it looked for jobs with the greatest tendency to automate. Next, he checked the list of professions that lost the most jobs.
Based on this, he calculated projections based on two hypotheses – linear and optimistic; and exponential and pessimistic. The latter considers an accelerated trend in the closing of vacancies. Relying on these references, the researchers observed that the areas of accounting, boxes, banksIt isinsurers, secretaries It is maintenance agents may be affected by the changes brought about by the digital revolution.
Us banks, for example, employability dropped by around 40% between 1986 and 2016 and could then disappear completely by 2050. To the accountants, the estimate is still a bit longer – they might not exist anymore by 2056.
Even if the data seem frightening, the purpose of the study is not to cause alarm, but to be aware that something needs to be done.
Erwann Tison, economist and director of the Sapiens Institute, points out that the “consequences of the digital revolution are real and need to be taken seriously right now. If we don't, we won't be able to anticipate the changes that are already happening. This could be a disaster for a large part of the population.”
The economist goes on to say that the study showed five areas that will be affected by the Digital Revolution and, thus, society collectively seeks solutions for these people to achieve reconversion professional.
In an article published on Portal G1, the professor and creator of the MBA in Change Management and Transformation Digital for the National Council of Brazilian Industry, Gil Giardelli, considers the results alarmists. And, despite research pointing to the end of several jobs, the professional has another point of view.
According to him, “in fact, we will have a society with less working time per day, with many companies that are already adopting weeks with four days of work, shorter working hours”. However, Giardelli recognizes hard paths to be traced in the coming years, especially due to the academy.
The professor points out that the courses cannot keep up with the process of technological change, and there is not enough time to prepare people for it. The situation brings a prediction of difficult times in the next three decades. Giardelli's impression is corroborated by Tison, from Instituto Sapiens.
The economist reports that, in the medical course, for example, there is a lack of subjects related to robotics in the curriculum. Ignoring the influence of technology on the profession is treated as a crime by the researcher. “Because today there is, for example, Google, which created an artificial intelligence, which allows you to make cancer diagnoses 30 times more assertive than humans”, he stresses.
Seeming to respond to Giardelli's comment about the study's alarmist tendencies, Tison recognizes that, while the Digital Revolution disappears with jobs, it makes many others appear. Moreover, he states that the job of forecasting is complicated precisely because it is not always confirmed.
However, it seems that transformations are already happening and it is up to society to prepare for them.
