Start of summer time is postponed at the request of the MEC

Candidates for this year's edition of the National High School Exam (Enem 2018) had good news this morning! Responding to the request of Ministry of Education (MEC), the Federal Government has decided to postpone the start of DST to November 18. The measure aims to avoid problems on the first day of tests.

The date previously scheduled for the start of summer time was November 4th, when the first Enem exams would be applied. The MEC feared that the time change would harm candidates residing in the states that adopt it. The measure also covers the second day of the tests, scheduled for November 11.

It is worth remembering that this is the second modification related to daylight saving time. Traditionally, Brazilians advance their clocks by one hour in October. However, a decree signed by President Michel Temer postponed the process to November due to the first and second rounds of elections – October 7 and 28, respectively.

The start date has been changed, but the end of daylight saving time is still maintained for February 17, 2019. Currently, 11 states adopt the program, namely Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, São Paulo and District Federal.
