In addition to the R$ 1 million that the ex-husband will have to pay for unpaid domestic work, he must also pay the ex-wife, Ivana Moral, a monthly “pension” of BRL 2,900.00, in addition to BRL 2,300.00 and BRL 3,480.00 for their daughters aged 20 and 14 years.
The reason for this is that Ivana and her daughters were left "with nothing" when the couple, who were married in 1995, divorced in 2020.
Ivana Moral related the following: “Clearly, this was a case of abuse for me to be completely financially excluded [by my ex-husband] with nothing left after my marriage ended.” "So me and my daughters are left with nothing after all these years of putting all my time, energy and love into the family."
Adds Ivana: “I was supporting my husband in his work and family as a mother and father. I never had access to his financial affairs; everything was in her name”.
Ivana says that she was asked to sign a separation of property agreement when she married her ex-husband, meaning that he would keep her wealth and they would share the common property.
In Vélez-Málaga, in the south of Spain, the court that handled the case heard that during the marriage, Ivana's ex-husband would have built a successful fitness business, which allowed him to buy several luxury cars and an olive oil farm, valued at R$ 35.2 million.
Ivana encourages other women to claim their rights
Ivana says that she hopes that sharing her case can inspire other women “to know that we can claim domestic work when there is an agreement of separation of property”.
Ivana's lawyer, Dr. Marta Fuentes, said that “the decision represents the work of all the women in the shadows… who, without a doubt, constitute a fundamental support in terms of personal, marital and family relationships for years and years so that the ex-husband could develop his professional career and an ascension in wealth that he was unable to do at the time of separation to share".
The Dr. Marta Fuentes continues with her speech: “So that he could follow his career, she stayed at home taking care of the children, and they never hired anyone to help her”.
She adds, "She was his shadow, working behind [him] so he could grow professionally and become somebody."
