These body parts are considered 'useless' by scientists

Over time, science has sought to explain some parts of the body that are useless, or at least appear to be. However, not all of them have obvious explanations, because there are still many mysteries in our body. So, read below what these “dispensable” items are in us, in case you are curious about the human anatomy.

Body parts that are “expendable”

For a long time, some limbs, muscles or even organs were considered expendable. However, science has discovered uses for them, such as the appendix, which harbors beneficial bacteria for our body and mental health.

As a result, the following body parts are considered expendable, but this could still change. Check them out below and see what they are:

Coccyx

Many of the expendable parts of our bodies are sort of vestiges of our evolution. For example, we have the coccyx, which is the triangular bone that sits at the end of the spine. According to studies, this would be a part that would give rise to a tail, like the one that other primates have.

However, we have lost the tail, but not yet the tailbone.

male nipples

Every man must have wondered, at some point, what their nipples are for. In this case, the explanation for this “mystery” lies in our genetics, more precisely when we are still embryos.

After all, during the first moments of human formation, there is no definition of sex, and that's when the nipples are born.

Wisdom teeth

Most of us have faced a lot of pain, or at least slight discomfort, with wisdom teeth, which leads us to ask: what are they for?

Well, just like the coccyx, the wisdom tooth is a vestige of our evolution, as we human beings needed wisdom to eat tough vegetables or meat, which is no longer necessary.

auricular muscles

Finally, we have the auricular muscles, which are on the external and visible part of the ear, being yet another example of an evolutionary vestige. According to some scientific theories, the muscles would be used for the movement of the ear, as well as in other animals.

However, humans lost this ability and so these muscles became useless.
