However, it is important to highlight that the decrease in retail prices was not as significant as in wholesale prices. This is because this transfer was not complete, which means that retail still maintains higher profit margins. Still, the decrease is welcome for consumers looking to save on beef purchases and delight.
Recently, federal deputy Maria do Rosário (PT) raised the discussion about the values of the sirloin steak by publishing a video showing a cut offer for R$ 34.99. However, it is important to point out that the promotion was for sliced picanha, a more affordable option that combines picanha and hard lump.
Despite the drop in prices in 2023, it is still worth considering the historical perspective. Compared to 2019, the value of sirloin steak remains higher, with an increase of 44.3% in wholesale and 59.31% in retail over the last five years. Alcides Torres explains that this increase was influenced by the livestock price cycle.
As explained earlier, the reduction in beef prices in 2023 is a result of the law of supply and demand. The increase in slaughter this year led to greater availability of meat on the market, which naturally resulted in lower prices.
To give you an idea, in June, the Cepea/B3 cattle indicator recorded a 25.7% drop compared to the same period last year, reaching the lowest level of 2023.
For consumers, this drop in values represents an opportunity to enjoy the variety of beef cuts at more affordable costs.
However, it is important to pay attention to promotions and compare prices to find better deals. Meanwhile, the livestock industry and markets remain vigilant to market behavior and trends that may influence future beef prices.
