With the new assistant, the use of Cortana, the current Windows 10 virtual assistant, will be left out. The news will be implemented in a major update to Windows 11, according to Microsoft.
Throughout Build 2023, Microsoft explained, through a demo video, that the new assistant virtual will be able to understand how users use Windows to channel their preferences.
In this way, Cortana's replacement will be able to offer a more complete and assertive experience to users of the operating system.
In general, Copilot will work identically to ChatGPT, answering questions asked by users, both in questions related to Windows itself and other subjects.
Something similar is already done by the Bing Chat plugin that was implemented on the platform, but, according to Microsoft, Copilot will act much more widely.
As an example, the new virtual assistant will be able to interact with documents and files, helping users to organize them and even send them via e-mail, for example.
In addition, Copilot will be able to assume some functions such as playing music and videos and adjusting the screen brightness of the monitors, all by synchronizing with Windows system apps and some third-party apps like Spotify and YouTube.
Finally, it was also announced that the “super smart” virtual assistant will be able to connect with plugins in browsers to access information contained on the internet, which will leave you practically on the same level as the ChatGPT.
The icon that will give access to Copilot will be fixed on the Windows taskbar, next to the traditional search bar.
There is still no release date for the virtual assistant, but testing the tool will begin in the first week of June.
