Undoubtedly, from the first Industrial Revolution, between the years 1760 and 1860, the humanity's understanding of work and the sale of labor was transfigured into another landing. Nowadays, everyone knows that, in order to have a minimally dignified life, it is necessary to perform a very important social function for the world governed by capitalism: to work. However, due to the crisis in which the world finds itself after the start of the pandemic, it has become difficult to find a job, and also to keep it.

In this sense, author Luciano Santos released a book entitled “Be selfish with your career: Discover how to put yourself in first place in your professional journey and reach your personal goals", which was recently published by Editora People.
In the book, the author addresses the most common habits that tend to hinder anyone's career, namely: lying, fighting with reality, not knowing how to give feedback, closing doors, caring about the rancidity of others, betraying trust, not considering other perspectives, comparing yourself, being afraid of being judged and, finally, not making decisions.
The author also points out that “the work environment is a place of suffering for many people. One of the reasons they don't know how to behave is because they were never brought up to do so.". In this perspective, Santos defends the thesis that the implementation of a teaching focused on behavior in the work environment should be implemented concomitantly with internships at universities.
According to the author, there are several reasons why people cannot deal with feedback — he pointed out as the main behavior that harms the career of beginners. In addition, he says that part of these problems come from erroneous thoughts that many people materialize, such as the idea of a perfect job. In this way, Santos approaches this idea as a myth, since “any workplace will be surrounded by multiple dimensions, and they will not work the way we want them to work”.
For psychologist Ana Carolina Peuker, these problems can be aggravated due to the lack of mental health of workers. According to her, “when we think about a career, people end up investing a lot in them from a technical point of view and not develop behavioral skills, such as how they will interact with the group, how they will communicate or be more empathic”. She also points out that emotional issues are intrinsically linked to the act of getting a job, being essential.
Peuker, who is also CEO of Bee Touch, a technology company focused on measuring psychosocial problems and tracking risk factors among workers, he also says that “we have been experiencing this hyperconnectivity a lot, in which people no longer distinguish between the time to rest and the time to work”. Thus, these problems can be caused by several factors.
The psychologist also reports that problems in organizational structures can influence this problem, due to the lack of transparency in companies, internal conflicts, environments with a lot of competition and activities that demand a very accelerated.
In this sense, she warns that “people who are able to recognize their potential and their limitations will be more confident and can be more authentic. Self-knowledge allows you to better identify your own reactions in different contexts, in addition to ensuring greater self-control. The psychological issue is still a stigma in the work scenario in Brazil. This needs to be more discussed, precisely to prevent habits like these from spreading. Without mental health, there is no health”, he concludes.
