Andrew became a celebrity after capturing Mars emerging behind the Moon, and also because of a impressive record of the galaxy The Pillars of Creation with a telescope and, then, were released in the Moon Shot documentary.
Andrew McCarthy said the new photo was the result of superimposing 180,000 16-bit images and over 600GB of data. The telescope used was an 11-inch on an equatorial mount. It basically works through two axes where one is parallel to the Earth's axis and the second allows movement from 0º at the Equator.
The operation took about 45 minutes, however he said that due to changing viewing conditions he was not very happy with the result. In the first stage of the photo, the atmosphere it was stable, but soon after, conditions deteriorated.
Even so, Andrew decided to publish the record, because, for him, it was not fair to stop publishing the image due to his own standards of meticulous people.
