Created through a partnership between the Brazilian Public Security Forum and the Economic Research Institute Applied (IPEA), the Atlas of Violence is a survey with the aim of analyzing the security of municipalities Brazilians. The last Atlas of Violence, created in 2019, analyzed the homicide rate of 319 municipalities Brazilians per 100,000 inhabitants, the national average of homicides and which are the most violence in the country.
According to the study, the national average of homicides per 100 thousand inhabitants is 37.6, a number considered high by the Institute. As for the most violent regions, the North and Northeast stand out, while the South region has the lowest homicide record per 100,000 inhabitants.
For comparison purposes, two states in the country are on opposite sides when it comes to the number of homicides. While São Paulo has the lowest rate in Brazil, with 14.3 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, Rio Grande do Norte has a rate of 67.4.
