In February 2022, Osmar Tomé was preparing for a flight that would leave the city of Luís Eduardo Magalhães, in Bahia. In this case, Tomé was in an agricultural plane, in which the propellers are exposed. It was then that, when starting the engine, he realized that the propeller would not move, which led him to get out of the plane to move the propeller manually.
This procedure is quite common in the world of aviation, but care must be taken to avoid what happened to Tomé. When trying to reposition the propeller, it started moving again and his left arm was severed at the elbow. Furthermore, the thumb of the right hand was also cut off at the same time.
After the accident, it was necessary to take the pilot to a hospital in Brasilia, where he was treated and underwent reconstruction surgery. After a year without flying, the pilot managed to return to the clouds on February 15th.
For him, it was an achievement to return to his craft after almost disbelieving that he could fly a plane again.
a complex surgery
Surgery to reconstruct amputated limbs is very complex and requires a series of precautions, which, fortunately, Osmar Tomé had. For example, it is necessary to collect the limb in the correct way to preserve it, as well as having access to a competent medical team to take care of the case.
In this case, who performed the surgery de Tomé was the orthopedist Bruno Veronesi. According to the doctor, Tomé's physical conditions also contributed significantly to his success in the surgery, since he was a healthy man.
In addition, Tomé was able to insert the member into a bag of saline solution and put this package on ice, which ensured that the reconstitution was possible.
