Ingredients

  • 1 can (395g) condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 75 ml of milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Method of preparation

  1. First of all, put the sugar in a pan, put it over medium heat and wait until it takes on a caramel tone;
  2. Then add the milk, butter and mix well with a spoon;
  3. Add the condensed milk and keep stirring for about 10 to 15 minutes, until this mixture becomes dulce de leche;
  4. Finally, turn off the heat when the candy has reached the desired point, then place it in an ovenproof dish and wait until it cools down before serving.

Okay, now that you've learned the step-by-step process for making homemade dulce de leche, just prepare and eat it however you like. Some suggestions are: to consume with white cheese, as a filling for toast, crepes and cake, or even to make alfajores.

Tips for making the perfect homemade dulce de leche

Use a non-stick pan, or one that is thick, so the candy won't stick to the bottom. In addition, it is more appropriate to use a wooden or silicone spoon to stir, but if you don't have one, you can use the aluminum one.

If you are in doubt about the sweetness point, put a little on a spoon and wait to cool down. Then, see if it has hardened a little and become creamier, as this means it is at the ideal point.

Can you save the candy to eat later?

Yes, but care is needed. Use a pot with a lid and store the candy in the fridge. This way, you can leave it stored for up to 10 days, but the ideal is to consume it as soon as possible so as not to spoil it.
