Drivers receive exemption from IPVA according to the vehicles they own and also according to the state in which they live. This is because it depends on the legislation of each state from how many years of manufacture of the vehicle it is possible to earn the exemption.
Over the years, more vehicles join this list, as the manufacturing time increases for each one of them. In the list below you can see the number of years each state requires, and which car models are exempt from 2023:
States with exemption from 10 years
The states with exemption from 10 years of manufacture are Rio Grande do Norte, Goiás and Roraima. In them, a large portion of the population receives the exemption every year, and from 2023 those who own the following vehicles are exempt from IPVA:
States with exemption from 15 years old
In Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Pará, Paraíba, Piauí and Rio de Janeiro, the exemption is 15 years. Following this criterion, drivers with the following vehicles will no longer pay the IPVA:
States with exemption from 20 years old
Drivers from the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Acre and Rio Grande do Sul are exempt from IPVA for vehicles 20 years old. Thus, in these states, drivers with the following vehicles join the exempt list:
